These pens are very similar to ones used during the Civil War. We are happy to report we found a maker who reproduces a 19th century ferrule, the part that attaches the nib to the pen. These are excellent Civil War era pens. You can pay more, but you can't get a better pen. That's our reproduction pen on the left, and our original pen on the right.
Remember, when writing with a steel pen, it takes a light touch! Think of it as painting the ink on the paper, and you'll have no problem writing with one.
