Pity our poor officer's commission. Some of our shoppers have stopped by the tent and refused to purchase it "because it doesn't have the stamps and seals and all of the other stuff on it." We know of three commission documents in existence, and two of them have no stamp or seal on them. While some British officer's commissions have stamps and seals affixed, the original copied to make this commission does not. We believe peacetime commissions have the stamps and seals because they were filled out and then signed by the King. Wartime ones were signed by the King while blank, to be filled out later. We believe that because the commissions were signed while incomplete, no seals were affixed.
