1862 Income Tax Form

The Federal government quickly realized that large amounts of money would be needed to pay for the war. In 1862, the government passed a law allowing a person's income to be taxed. The tax code and laws of 1862 were much simpler than the structure today, and the tax actually affected only a small percentage of people. In the spirit of the tax season, we present our facsimile reproduction of this 4-page tax form.
