This is an abbreviated version of John Lewis’ Young Kate” originally published by Harper in 1844. The names of the principal characters, have been changed from Ballenger to Allen. A case of apparent plagiarism published in August of 1862.

On another note, I have to admit that when I saw this book for sale, I thought it was called The Aliens and I thought it would be a very different kind of story.
