Documents of the Continental
Army on CD (CD0401) - This CD contains 60 PDF images of our
Continental documents, forms and posters. Each CD contains the images of the
forms, and a page of explanatory notes detailing how to fill out each form. Now
you can make as many copies of some, or all of our forms anytime you need them.
All the forms at the click of a mouse for $40!
All of our Continental Army documents are based on existing originals. While most of
the originals are typeset printed forms, some are handwritten. These handwritten forms
followed an obvious format, but to date we have not seen printed examples of these. If we
were to only sell reproductions of the printed forms, there would be administrative holes
in our offerings. To fill these holes, we also offer a few re-creations of the handwritten
forms.
American Recruiting Kit (RWP105) - This kit contains

outlines the duties and responsibilities of a recruiting officer, including the filling
out of expense reports to account for money spent recruiting soldiers.
6 1776 enlistment forms - These small forms were used in
the New York area in 1776 to enlist soldiers for Continental Service.
Extra Enlistment Forms (RWP106) - An extra
pack of 6 forms to expand your scenario is available for $1.00.

captain need a Letter of Marque, he also had to post a Privateer's bond stating that he
would not violate international law. The captain also received a set of instructions from
Congress, which lay out all of the laws and rules that he must follow to be considered a
privateer and not a pirate. $3.00, includes:

Other American Documents
1776 Infantry Regimental Return (10 x
13) (DRW001)- The company returns were compiled into a regimental return.
These forms were used to determine fighting strength, amount of food
issued, and give a clear picture of the organization of the 1776 regiment,
the basic fighting unit of the army. One of these is included in the
American Regimental Sergeant's Kit (RWP101) $2.00.
1779 Muster Roll (11 X 17) (DRW003) - This hand-written roll is
more typical of Continental Army muster forms. It records men's names,
ranks, promotions, date of enlistment, and disposition. When you
purchase this you actually receive two forms, one printed and one blank
for you to fill in. $2.00
1779 Infantry Regimental Return, type 1 (10 x 15) (DRW003) -
This form is similar to the 1776 form, but shows the organizational
changes that have taken place in the army during the years in between.
$2.00.
1779 Cavalry Regimental Return (8 x 14) (DRW004) - The
cavalry also had to account for its numbers. This form is amusing to
us because the printer places an advertisement for his work right at
the top of the form. $1.50.
Continental Navy (Marine) Discharge (3 x 7) (DRW005) This
dollar-sized slip of paper was given to a sailor at the completion
of a cruise. $.50.
Many of our British documents are typeset printed ones. As with the American ones, we
felt that we would not be able to offer a complete set of documents if we only offered
printed forms. Therefore we have supplemented these with forms taken from two contemporary
books on British Army Administration. One is called The Military Medley, written
by Thomas Simes. The other is by Bennett Cuthbertson. While studying existing original
hand-written forms, it can be easily seen that they follow the formats shown in these books.

1 Pay Voucher
1 Pay Note
5 Pay Receipts
Quartermaster's Kit (RWP203) - Just the kit you need

1 Regimental Sick Return
British Officer Documents
Pity our poor officer's commission. Some of our shoppers have stopped by the tent and
refused to purchase it "because it doesn't have the stamps and seals and all of the
other stuff on it." We know of three commission documents in existence, and two of
them have no stamp or seal on them. While some British officer's commissions have stamps
and seals affixed, the original copied to make this commission does not. We believe
peacetime commissions have the stamps and seals because they were filled out and then
signed by the King. Wartime ones were signed by the King while blank, to be filled out
later. We believe that because the commissions were signed while incomplete, no seals were
affixed. We also offer a half-pay oath, for those who wish to continue on the King's pay
after they have finished active duty.

goings of 18th century life. It includes a Liquor License for your bar (wherever it may
be), an Innkeeper's license for your guest room and a copy of a 1772 marriage license
There is also an Indenture Agreement. These agreements were made between parents (on
behalf of their children) and master craftsmen. Children were usually apprenticed for
seven years, the parents receiving a sum of money in return. On our original the child was
supposed to receive clothes, food, and knowledge of a trade. Finally we include an Order
of Manumission. This certificate freed a slave. Of special interest is the fact that this
document is not from the South, but from New Jersey. $3.00, includes:

We offer the finest two color currency that we have found. This currency is not the
oily, onion-skin tea-stained stuff that you see in the souvenir shops. These reproductions

With no radio, television, or internet, the distribution of public information was
difficult. Newspapers were available, but the governments preferred having their various
proclamations and declarations printed by local printers. These were often printed as
posters (broadsides) and then posted in public places such as taverns, inns, and the
outside of public buildings. Various printers had government contracts to print the news
and declarations from Congress, the King, or for the general public.
Continental Broadside Pack (RWP110)

handle persons who remained loyal to the King.

needed for the war effort, denying their exportation.
Postal Workers Exemption - A law enacted to exempt
postal workers and post riders from militia service.
Pardon to Tories - A 1778 resolution offers pardon to
all who switch allegiance from King to Congress.
Crown Broadside Pack (RWP210) - contains 4
broadsides that would have been found in places held by British forces. Kit price of
$4.00 includes:
1775 King's Proclamation - This poster went up after the
action between New England militia and British forces at Breed's Hill.
1777-78 Philadelphia Regulations - A poster seen in
Philadelphia during the British takeover of the Continental capital. It details
instructions about certain commodities, including rum and molasses.
British Loyalist Recruiting Poster - Another poster seen
in Philadelphia during the British takeover. It marks one of many British attempts to get
citizens remaining loyal to the crown to take up arms against their "deluded"
countrymen.
British Regulars Recruiting Poster - This poster was
used in England to enlist men into the 22nd Regiment of Foot. It is blank in all of the
necessary places, and appears to be a generic British Army recruiting poster.
Civilian Broadside Pack - (RWP310)
-
Containing an interesting assortment of public notices of the Continental era. Kit price
of $3.00 includes:
Notice for an Upcoming Slave Auction - This small (7 x
10) poster gives notice of an upcoming slave auction of men, women, boys, and girls in
Charleston.
A Short Warning to all Desperate and Prophane Swearers, Cursers,

references in an attempt to redeem those who use vulgar language. A printed broadside
posted in London.
1775 Property Auction Notice - This bilingual notice
advertised an upcoming auction of property in Germantown, Pennsylvania. It is printed in
English and German.
Robbery Notice - This poster went up in Bucks County,
Pennsylvania, northeast of Philadelphia, in 1785. An excellent description of what a
rather well off man would have on his person (which he was robbed of), and a great paper
to post at your establishment.
Advertisement for Mrs. Phillips's Warehouse.
(8 x 11) (DRW301)-This establishment was evidently very famous in 18th century London as
a seller of "bladder policies". For those of you not familiar with this
euphemism, if you look in the Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, an 18th century
book, you will find mention of Mrs. Phillips under the word condom.
$1.00
1776 Continental Army Recruiting Poster (8 x 14) (DRW305)
- Another poster
containing Instructions to the Officers Appointed to Recruit. This poster went up in New
